The common marmoset is found in the Atlantic coastal forests, gallery and dry forests of eastern Brazil. This species is found in the states of Alagoas, Pernambuco, Paraiba, Rio Grande do Norte, Ceara, and Piaui in north-east Brazil. This species has been recently introduced into the states of Sergipe, Bahia, and Rio de Janeiro in Brazil (Coimbra-Filho, 1984; cited in Rylands et al., 1993).
