The average body mass for an adult in the wild is around 400 grams. The digits on the common marmoset are more claw-like except for the first digits of the toes. Common marmosets have large chisel-like incisors used for gnawing holes in trees, and the canines are shaped more like incisors. The labia majora of the female resemble the scrotum of the males. There is little sexual dimorphism in this species. The common marmoset has nonopposable thumbs. The common marmoset has a dental formula of 2:1:3:2 on both the upper and lower jaw (Martin, 1990).
